UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACT

Catalina García
Universidad de Los Andes

Participating in MUN has been one of the most exciting things I have ever been a part of, both as delegate and chairperson. Through Model UN, I have acquired multiple skills and remarkable friends that have been key to the development of my university studies. I am eager to get to know each of you, and I am confident this model will be one of a kind!

I am a passionate person about international affairs, who found the best way to raise his voice and ideas on global issues through MUNs. On this occasion, I will have the honor and pleasure of being your president at the United Nations Global Compact, an innovative committee that will allow you to show the best of you. I am looking forward to meeting you all and enjoy this extraordinary experience at COLMUN Cali 2017.

United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a voluntary initiative based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to take steps to support UN goals that enjoys the support of the United Nations General Assembly and has additionally been recognized in a number of other inter-governmental contexts, including by the G8. In December 2015, the UN General Assembly renewed the mandate of the Global Compact Office and the UN office that supports the initiative in its Resolution "Towards global partnerships: A principle-based approach to enhanced cooperation between the United Nations and all relevant partners". UNGC is recognized as the world's largest corporate sustainability iniciative, a call to companies to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals.

TOPIC A. GENDER EQUALITY IN LABOR FORCE:

United Nations Global Compact is an innovative committee that is going to take place this year for the first time in COLMUN Cali. It brings two different topics related to global issues that affect both companies and organizations worldwide.

The UNGC will address the topics of gender inequality in labor force and the business of coltan mining, which are matters present in different business sectors that are hindering the possibility of generating development in the world. Taking that into account it will allow delegates to come together, discuss and generate solutions aiming to protect and improve life quality of thousands of people that live under situations of discrimination, poverty and human rights violation.
